There are limited opportunities in life where we are given the luxury of faith. In wanting to believe, we invest ourselves in signs, hoping to thread meaning into happenstance (when the train arrives on time, when you come by success, or when the “stars align” somehow.) We believe in each event’s trivial significance, and go further by creating entire narratives about how we are entitled to each instance of goodness. In these times, we interchange serendipity with providence with the manifestation of premonitions and reduce these statuses to being “lucky.” We forget about the majority of instances that don’t necessarily work in our favor, as in the billion other moments that exist leading up to and happen after that particular moment of “luck.” If we examined the infinite moments between moments (not only would that be an incredibly arduous and futile task) we would statistically render the truth of our experience: there is no such thing as luck.

The return of dreams. « letters from the end.

Revisiting sci-fi.  I think I’mma go back and finish this story within 2012.  I still am very attached to this character.
